My take on the iPhone 3GS
After thinking about the pros and cons of the situation I and many others face, ive come to a very honest conclusion.
It’s been almost a year since the iPhone 3G came out, and almost a year since I bought one, along with MANY other people. Existing iPhone owners and newbies alike all ran to the stores as soon as they could to get the amazing new device. Everyone got a great phone for a pretty good price, and went home happy (or at least after the AT&T issue was solved). For the past 11 months we’ve enjoyed the 3G and Apps upon Apps, but now its that time of year again, and so enters the iPhone 3GS. The same basic body but a much improved camera, the ability to record, edit, and upload video, Voice control, a built in compass, Cut/Paste, MMS, Landscape Keyboard, and “Spotlight” search! Thats how its pitched. And all these great features are supposed to get current 3G owners to give up $399 or $499 with a two year commitment, or $599 or $699 without. But thats not my take on it. The iPhone 3GS has some new features, but most of the advertised advantages or the new phone are part of the 3.0 software update, available free to current iPhone and iPhone 3G users. My point in all of this is simple. The iPhone 3GS is awesome. Same beautiful form factor, better camera, video, a compass, and voice control, not to mention it really is faster than the current iPhone 3G. Here in is my issue. Great phone if you held off on the last model, but at the 200 dollar price point, who held out?! Otherwise, take the free iPhone 3.0 upgrade, enjoy the long needed features, and wait till next year, when we all qualify for the $199 price point!
