My take on the iPhone 3GS
After thinking about the pros and cons of the situation I and many others face, ive come to a very honest conclusion.
It’s been almost a year since the iPhone 3G came out, and almost a year since I bought one, along with MANY other people. Existing iPhone owners and newbies alike all ran to the stores as soon as they could to get the amazing new device. Everyone got a great phone for a pretty good price, and went home happy (or at least after the AT&T issue was solved). For the past 11 months we’ve enjoyed the 3G and Apps upon Apps, but now its that time of year again, and so enters the iPhone 3GS. The same basic body but a much improved camera, the ability to record, edit, and upload video, Voice control, a built in compass, Cut/Paste, MMS, Landscape Keyboard, and “Spotlight” search! Thats how its pitched. And all these great features are supposed to get current 3G owners to give up $399 or $499 with a two year commitment, or $599 or $699 without. But thats not my take on it. The iPhone 3GS has some new features, but most of the advertised advantages or the new phone are part of the 3.0 software update, available free to current iPhone and iPhone 3G users. My point in all of this is simple. The iPhone 3GS is awesome. Same beautiful form factor, better camera, video, a compass, and voice control, not to mention it really is faster than the current iPhone 3G. Here in is my issue. Great phone if you held off on the last model, but at the 200 dollar price point, who held out?! Otherwise, take the free iPhone 3.0 upgrade, enjoy the long needed features, and wait till next year, when we all qualify for the $199 price point!
Quick Note: Star Trek
Im too tired to write a full post tonight, but i will post a quick note. I was thinking of doing this on the LOST finalie, however i have no way of doing that spoiler free, so instead, ill mention the fantastic thing i saw today. STAR TREK. To put it simply, it was AMAZING. No way in my wildest dreams did i think it would live up to the hype, but it did that plus much more. The casting is the best ive seen in a movie since the dark night. I wont get into a full review right now, but bottom line here is its GREAT. If you have doubts, cast them away and go see it. and for gods sake enjoy. Give the few slow moments there are a chance because every scene almost made me pee my pants with excitement and enjoyment (though im sure the coke didnt help either…) Thats it. Go see it.
Review – Resident Evil Degeneration (iPhone)
I jumped onto Gizmodo about an hour ago to be instantly angered about the reveal of the Zune phone rumors being a big joke created by an Apple fanboy. Then i realized, Who needs a ZunePhone (ZPhone? Phune?) when i have a soon to be old iPhone 3G, especially when Resident Evil Degeneration has just been released!
General idea here is an iphone version of a game previously released on the N-Gage (yes, it wasn’t a nightmare, they were real.). The plot is paper thin. Even when compared to the movies already light story, it comes down to: You are Leon S Kennedy. You kill zombies. You kill zombies in airport. Though the plot, or rather lack thereof, can be easily forgiven, as it is a 9MB iPhone game. However, because of the fact that it is an iPhone game, the controls are iffy. By far the best Ive experienced in any off rails shooter on the platform, but if your used to other RE games, ditch the default inverted Y-Axis, because when the zombie flight attendents come knockin, the backwards controls…just plain suck. Bottom line here is that it is an iPhone game. Its a Resident Evil game. Those two together sound scary, but the game is good. Rather or not you believe it to be worth the 7.99 it costs is up to what you think iPhone games in general are worth. However the enjoyment is here. The game is worth the buy, but real RE fans will likely already have it by the time they get around to reviews.
Back again…
Sorry about the false restart of my little blog last time. This time ill try to stick around.
Listening to ListenUp is getting me really excited for E3, and while i should be getting to sleep- I would like to make some quick E3 predictions, which i will follow up on in much more detail tomorrow.
Nintendo- To stay on top, Nintendo will have to pull out all the guns, swords, and mushrooms. A new Mario DS game along with the newly announced remakes of Pokemon G/S will have to be spotlighted. In addition, i would like to say that even though the Wii is a totally joke system as of now, i think it will change this year. I say this because if it doesnt happen this year, we (We being the serious gamers.) will be screwed.
Sony- New PSP. (PSP Go!). That plus a few big name titles for the PS3, and maybe one for the PSP (LBP-Go! ??).
Microsoft- Microsoft needs to steer away from trying to make NXE into somthing more then it needs to be, and bring their focus back games. First party or not, they need to be good. A good line up for MS this year could put the 360 back on top. I expect a fun FFXIII announcement (Demo? as of now PS3 exclusive…)
Again, i will elaborate more tomorrow, but i need to get to sleep. G’night!
SwE3t Dreams…
Back for the first time…
I’m back. Don’t know where I’m back from, just decided to start the ol’ Blog back up. Posting more often hopefully. Reviews of….everything…Can’t guarantee anything as of right now, but hopefully I won’t forget. I’m posting this at 3 in the morning, so i may very well not even remember this, but hopefully i’ll follow though, and use better grammar. I promise. Goodnight!
So…about my iPhone 3G…
After watching the second AOTS review of the iPhone 3G, I am starting to realize these problems I am having are all across the board, rather than just a select group of people.
There are a total of 5 people on our family plan, and these issues have (confirmed for all accept one member) happened to all of us at least once, likely more than once.
First off I need to say I do talk on my phone a lot, and I keep my 3G on, because that is one of the features of the phone (which is why I don’t get the advice of “just turn the 3G off to save battery life” because if I wanted a 2G phone I would get the old iPhone. As I was ranting, I do talk on 3G for all of the phone calls unless the area doesn’t have it, which does help drain the battery down, but it does it way too fast to be considered reasonable.
If i go to bed at night, plug my phone in, let it charge full, and then take it off in the morning, I shouldn’t have to worry about the battery until AT LEAST the next day. If I use the features the iPhone 3G boasts as the great features, (ie: 3G Data/Talk, GPS, 3rd party apps) I can rarely make it though the day, and it only lasts that long if I am not talking a lot.
Onto the part that has really been bugging me, and as far as I can tell, everyone else in the world. 2 Main issues that need correcting immediately, and those are crashes (app crashes and entire phone crashes) and dropped calls. I would go as far as to say I deal with both of these issues on a daily basis at this point. I don’t know who to blame for the dropped calls, but both company’s need to step up their game a lot. At&t should have made a much larger and better 3G network (and regular network) a long time ago, but the blame here has to go (at least from me) onto Apple, but that isn’t because i dislike the company, because i don’t. I love Apple, and that is why it sucks to have to say this, but seriously…
Your Apple. You are Apple. You are APPLE. Fix these issues. You are like a god of the tech world, Your products rarely have issues, so why now? Why is it that your greatest product has to have the most problems? This is me calling out Apple for being so far off from what Apple has presented themselves to be, that it makes me sick. I haven’t had this many issues with anything accept Vista, and at least a few tweaks can fix Vistas issues without taking away 50% of its functionality.
Get on your game Apple. And At&t, this is your last warning to do as you promised and improve your network before people start to get truly angry.
Thanks for reading, I love my iPhone, I Hate the issues and At&t, I wish I could love them all, so make it work!
Back To School = Back To Routine.
I should go on here more, and am going to start, but rather than go with my initial idea of using it to review, i am making it my regular old blog. Nothing different, accept the fact that my life is much more interesting than many others, but back to my post.
School starts tomorrow, and I am far from ready for it. I have all i need, but i am just plain old not ready for summer to end, but alas, I do not control the seasons, so i must be leaving my days of staying up on COD4 until 5-8AM, waking up at 11-4, and taking in mass amounts of sugar, behind.
I can also officially say I am the healthiest i have been in a long long time. I have cut myself off of energy drinks (with the exception of Brain Toniq) almost entirely. I have also began taking daily vitamins, eating breakfast (something I usually have little to no time for) and generally taking much better care of all of my belongings and living area.
I don’t want to get into a story of how I (not to long ago) lived like a pig, we will save that for another time, but rather say how glad I am that I no longer live that way. Anyways, it’s time to wrap things up. Tomorrow is my first day back to school, I start my Junior year of High School (aka. the most important year of my school life). and right after I am headed to the rally to see Ron Paul and many other guest speakers, though that depends on rather or not tickets are available. Enough with this post, i have rambled for far too long. Thanks for reading/listening, and see you whenever I so decide to post next.

iPhone App Review: WordPress
It seems only fitting that the first app I review from the wordpress app, is the wordpress app itself. I don’t have any major pull in any direction at this point it’s just kind of…meh.
I like how well it works, and I like how non-complex it is. I think it presents itself very professionlly, as it should. I do however dislike that you can only access drafts created from your phone, and not from your computer. I am hoping that will be fixed with the first update. I really can’t say I have much trouble typing on it. As with typing anything on the iPhone, it just takes a bit of getting used to before you can go quick.
Bottom Line: If you use wordpress, I strongly suggest the app. However don’t get it just to try it if you don’t already gave a wordpress account. I’m excited to see how this will work as a liveblogging app for special events!
iPhone App Review: Twinkle
First post, I decided to do an App review.
This one is Twinkle. A useful social Networking Application that links with your Tapulous account, and if you have one, your Twitter account.
The really nice thing about Twinkle, is it shows people around you, narrowed down to anyone within 1000, 100, 50, 25, 10, 5, 2, and 1 miles of you. You can also set it to people everywhere. However it doesn’t show people who use other twitter apps such as Twitterific, however this can be forgiven.
It can be looked at as a very useful app or a useless app. I choose to think of it as a good thing, because it can help in any number of ways. From meeting up with friends, meeting new ones, learning about things happening around you, or even for support with something you have an issue with.
Right after the App launched, Amazon S3 had some issues, causing a lot of problems with the App, however they are working hard to recover from that and will be back to normal soon. So ignore any crashes over the next few days, and try it out!
Bottom Line: If you like Twitter, you will love Twinkle. If you dont like Twitter, or are in-between, at least give it a try. I didnt like it right away, but now it is my favorite App. It can be used often, or just once in a while. It is a solid app, which has so far only had issues because of Amazons S3 Accident.
